Exotic Hand Oil

I love mixing and blending my own lotions and potions and this is a wonderfully sensual blend that is perfect for this time of year as it will ease the most ragged and frayed cuticles, and smooth the driest of skins. I use this hand oil at night when I get into bed, as it very rich and you have too really rub it in, gently pushing back your cuticles as you go, paying more attention to any dry areas. I believe this blend smells similar to Tom Fords – White Patchouli, which also lends it a luxurious feel.

  • 1 1/2 Tablespoons Olive Oil
  • 1 Tablespoon Avocado Oil
  • 5 Drops of Patchouli Oil
  • 5 Drops of Rose Oil
  • 2 Drops of Benzoin

This will keep for 6 months, and I make it up directly into a dropper bottle and give it a good shake. You could also use any small bottle and pour a few drops out each evening.

Olive Oil; This works particularly well in this blend as it works well with the Avocado Oil – which would be too thick on its own.

Avocado Oil; Extracted from the fruit of the Avocado, the Oil is packed with protein, omega 3 fatty acids and anti-oxidants such as Vitamin A,D and E. Equally good to cook with, Avocado Oil is luxurious when applied to this skin and even on its own it will smooth and plump the skin. Full of Lecithin and Potassium, Avocado Oil has even been shown in some studies to boost collagen production.

Patchouli; The ultimate hippie scent, Patchouli which grows as a bush and is a member of the mint family is anti-inflammatory and anti-septic and is wonderful for easing dry skin. In addition to its ability to tighten skin and ease skin condition such as eczema, the fragrance of Patchouli is balancing, grounding and warming.

Rose; Using Rose Oil is a touch of luxury as it is expensive, if you can’t go for pure Rose Oil then Rose Otto 5% or 10% Dilutions (usually with Jojoba) are a good back up plan to enjoy its properties and heavenly scent. Rose is abundant with Vitamins, Minerals and Anti-Oxidants which is why it is so popular in skin care treatments. It is renowned for its emollient (moisturising) and astringent properties, helping to reduce redness associated with capillaries and refining the texture of the skin. Rose has also been shown to reduce cortisol (the stress hormone) making it a welcome addition to any bedtime ritual.

Benzoin; Also known as ‘Gum Benjamin’ – this has a wonderful warming, spicy scent, that is quite unique and that some people have described as a ‘summers day’. Benzoin adds an addiitonal layer of luxury to this blend with it ability to tone the skin and also heal any cracked skin – making it perfect around cuticles. Benzoin is also wonderful in diffusers and oil burners if you have coughs and chect problems.

Use this wonderfully fragrant exotic blend on your hands for just a few days and I promise they will be baby soft after just a few nights.
