Tea for the Full Moon

Tonight will see the Full Moon in Cancer – varyingly known as the Wolf Moon, Old Moon and Ice Moon. An emotional, powerful moon, the name Wolf Moon is from the howling of the hungry wolves in the cold, barren January nights.

I prefer the name ‘Old Moon’ – it is an Old Moon, as this Moon was born at the end of the previous year, and we don’t have Wolves in the UK any more – sadly. I also feel connected to the ‘Ice Moon’ – how magical a sight to catch a glimpse of a full, cold January moon over a field of frost. Truly Beautiful. I like to remember to simply use the moon – to connect to its cycles of waxing and waning and to embed in them things I wish to see grow or diminish around me. For me this Full Moon will take with it as it wanes everything I want to see left behind in 2014.

I will brew the following, warming, cleansing Tea and will reflect the Moon in my cup before I drink it;

  • 1 thumbsize piece of fresh ginger
  • 1 teaspoon of chamomile flowers
  • half an apple
  • 2-3 Cloves
  • 2-3 Star Anise
  • 1-2 teaspoons of honey
  • any stray mint still living in my garden

Boil the ginger and apple in a saucepan for 10 minutes – then strain the water into a tea pot. Add the Chamomile Flowers, Star Anise and Cloves (and Mint if you have any) and steep for 5 minutes. Then sweeten to taste with the honey. This makes a warming, cleansing tea that will help to ground emotions during the Full Cancer Moon and will also cleanse your Liver.
